Batch Reactor is used for the anaerobic digester. Since, it is not a large scale process, which is based on the food waste supply of TESCO Bandar Seri Iskandar. The full process of anaerobic digestion require the absence of oxygen in the process so, the reactor is needed to be sealed during the process. As the batch digestion is simple and requires less equipment and lower levels of design work, it is typically a cheaper form of digestion.

Thermophilic digestion is to be used in the reactor. Thermophilic bacteria have an optimal temperature range of 50-60ºC. Therefore, the operating temperature is set to be as close as possible to 55ºC. Thermophilic digestion is chosen as it has faster reaction and lower detention time compare to mesophilic digestion. The process is undergoing at atmospheric pressure.

As the operating temperature will be as high up to 55 ºC in order for thermophilic digestion to occur so, heating system is required to the reactor. In order to increase the efficiency of the system, recovered heat from the co-generation plant is used to maintain the operating temperature of the anaerobic digestion process. The recovered heat is used through the pre-heater before the food waste entered the batch reactor and the heater that operates with the reactor.
